Romans 5:19 says, "'gentleness, and self-control. There is no law against these things! idolatry, sorcery, hostility, quarreling, jealousy, outbursts of anger, selfish ambition, dissension, division, But the Holy Spirit produces this kind of fruit in our lives: love, joy, peace, patience, kindness, goodness, faithfulness, envy, drunkenness, wild parties, and other sins like these. Let me tell you again, as I have before, that anyone living that sort of life will not inherit the Kingdom of God.' Galatians 5:20-23
The governance I speak of is not your political affiliation, red or blue, but the very thing that guides your human nature. Even as there are two sides of a coin, night and day, black and white, law and Spirit, there is a clearer distinction between "law and Spirit."
It is not wise to tow the line but it a sure blessing to choose aside. Romans 5:19 gives a clear depiction of what fruit is produced when governed by the law. It is a deadly thing to be caught between two thoughts. Every day of your life is a choice. A choice to live in Christ or die in sin.
We do not look at this chapter verse as our judgment of the world but scriptures say by their fruits you will know them Matthew 7:16. Roman 5:19 presents itself as a passage of scripture where we are probed into self-reflection and introspection.
When the children of Israel chose to build and take pleasure in an idol as a result of their impatience, it caused many of them to lose not only the promise but their life (Genesis 32:22-28). "Whoever is on the Lord's side--come..." Gen 32:26
It is written in Isaiah 9:7, "His government and its peace will never end. He will rule with fairness and justice from the throne of his ancestor David for all eternity. The passionate commitment of the Lord of Heaven’s Armies will make this happen!
And over all these virtues put on love, which is the bond of perfect unity. 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, for to this you were called as members of one body. And be thankful. 16Let the word of Christ richly dwell within you as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom, and as you sing psalms, hymns, and spiritual songs with gratitude in your hearts to God.… Col 3:14-16
Be governed by the Spirit of Christ and not by the law.
